Free Weights vs Machines
From a muscle strength and size perspective, you can get the same results from a free weight and a machine. At Discover Strength, we use machines for the majority of our exercise.
The benefits of machines are:
1. Efficiency- you can change weights quickly and can add advanced oerload techniques quickly
2. You can do exercises that you can’t do with a free weight (leg extenstion, leg curl etc)
2. The biomechanics. With a free weight, you may reach a mechanical sticking point, versus getting to failure through a full range of motion on a machine. (The quality of machine varies depending on how the machine is designed)
