In this week’s episode of “The Discover Strength Podcast” we continue our multi-part series featuring trainers from all the Discover Strength locations. In this series, which will air over the next few months, we talk about some of the most important things all of our new clients should know. These topics are also a great reminder for clients who’ve trained with Discover Strength for years, and serve as the foundation of the “Why” behind the “How” of what we do.
This week, we’re joined by Discover Strength Founder and CEO, Luke Carlson. Luke and I take some time to discuss the importance of the Leg Extension (or Knee Extension exercise). We’ll chat about what makes this exercise so valuable and why a specific type of Leg Extension stands above the rest of the industry with its superior design specifications.
I encourage you to share this episode with anyone you know who has ever suffered from knee pain or had a knee surgery or injury in the past.
Let’s show everyone that you can work harder and smarter just 2x/week for 30 minutes and get the same or even better results with a “Discover Strength Style” approach to your resistance training routine.
While I agree with the value of Leg Extensions, I am also aware that not every trainer can afford a Medx Leg Extension. Also, if a trainer doesn’t even have their own gym/studio, which most don’t, they will be lucky if they find any Medx equipment in their local gym. I’ve certainly not seen a lot of Medx in the UK. So what are your recommendations for other makes/models of leg extension machines?
Any leg extension CAN be used effectively. It’s not the tool, but how the tool is used. Err on the side of moving slowly, eliminating momentum, and keeping tension on the targeted muscle. Avoid bouncing at the top of the range of motion. If there is pain at any point of the range of motion, avoid that range of motion (and this applies not just to leg extension!).
Thank you for your response. Yes, I agree and that is how I would use any machine regardless. Although that wasn’t the question. I would still be interested in their views/recommendations on other makes and models, assuming they have used other makes/models other than Medx. Having said that, I guess it’s a case of not wanting to upset other manufacturers.
Thanks again for your response.
